ACADEMICS

St. Petersburg Catholic High School offers college preparatory classes to equip students with the academic skills and knowledge necessary for success in post-secondary education. These focus on advanced curriculum and critical thinking skills that emphasize study skills, time management and test-taking strategies to help students excel academically and prepare for the rigors of higher education.

St. Petersburg Catholic High School offers honors level classes for academically motivated students. These courses have a deeper exploration of the material and increased rigor compared to standard college preparatory classes. Honors classes will involve more critical thinking, analytical writing and independent research, challenging students to delve deeper into the subject matter. Honors classes are designed to prepare students for the academic demands of college-level coursework and advanced placement (AP) or dual enrollment (DE) courses.

St. Petersburg Catholic High School offers Advanced Placement courses in English, Mathematics, Fine Arts, Science, Social Studies and World Languages. These rigorous college level classes are designed for academically capable and motivated students. Placement into an AP class requires administrator approval. Standardized test scores and a review of the student’s academic record will be part of the approval process. At the end of each course, students will sit for a written exam that is scored by the College Board. Based on the grade the student earns on this exam, college credit may be awarded at the discretion of the college or university the student attends. 

St. Petersburg Catholic High School students in 11th and 12th (qualified 10th graders) grades may choose to earn college credit while attending high school through our Dual Enrollment (DE) agreement with St. Petersburg College. Selected courses are offered at no additional tuition cost. Dual Enrollment courses are college courses for academically capable students, taught by qualified St. Petersburg Catholic High School faculty members on our campus. Students participating in DE courses are expected to do college-level work and will be held to college standards for grading. All grades earned in Dual Enrollment classes are recorded on an official St. Petersburg College transcript. All credits earned may be transferred at the discretion of the college or university the student attends. Students should contact post-secondary institutions to which they may apply for information regarding DE credits.
