HSPT

The HSPT is a standardized, timed test required of every 8th-grade student applying to attend SPCHSl. It contains five sections. The first two sections measure verbal and quantitative ability. The next three sections include questions related to reading comprehension, mathematics, and the components of written language. The HSPT questions are designed to test students at their curriculum level.

SPCHS uses the test scores to assist with ninth-grade course placement. 

Students with IEP, 504 or Student Support Plan (SSP) documentation may receive extended time for the HSPT.

Plan to get enough sleep and decrease screen time the night before the test. Eat breakfast the morning of the test. Dress in comfortable clothing. Bring a sweatshirt and water bottle. Cell phones may be brought with limited use for communication for transportation.

Please leave all other electronic devices at home (i.e. headphones, smartwatches, etc.).

There will be brief breaks between the sections of the test. SPCHS will provide a light snack and water during the main break.

Calculators are not permitted for the HSPT.

The HSPT is a one-time exam and should not be repeated. If a student will be taking the HSPT at a location other than SPCHS, please inform the Enrollment Coordinator by emailing gfonseca@spchs.org with the details of where and when the test will be taken. Schools within the Diocese of St. Petersburg can share scores; if you would like us to share your student’s scores, please notify us by email.

Scores will be mailed to parents along with admissions decisions. We will not be mailing scores provided by other schools.

SPCHS does award scholarships at varying levels to students who take the HSPT and submit an early decision application to SPCHS. The scholarship amounts will vary and be applied to tuition expenses only.

Students have been well-prepared for the HSPT by their educators and through the knowledge they've built over their years of study. While we do not offer an HSPT prep course on campus, some families may supplement with test prep books, which are readily available through Amazon and other retailers
